Album Info:I got pretty interested in this particular hybrid engine, and thought I'd like to have a model of it. Took a bunch of detail photos and built a model from an old Front Range GP-9 I had in a box, with a lot of detail parts including Cannon & Co cab and nose. I think it came out pretty good, but you can judge for itself. There has been a lot of confusion about the model designation for this particular unit - some folks insist it is a GP-11 and not a GP-16. The fact is that anything other than the "God-given" EMD designations of GP-7, GP-9, GP-18, etc . . . are unofficial model nomenclature. The railroad that sends a locomotive off for a rebuild often prefers to call it something else, usually to keep the rebuilt locomotives separate from the non-rebuilt on its roster. But subsequent owners also have a right to call them something else if they wish. I don't know (and don't care) what the Seaboard System called this unit when it came back from its rebuild at Paducah, KY. But if you climb into the cab of the 316 and look at its FRA Blue Card (as I have), you will see the designation GP-16 and nothing else. That's what I'm sticking with here.
